Verso execs to lead company after NewPage acquisition

Verso Paper Corp.’s existing senior leadership team will continue to lead the company after the completion of its pending acquisition of Miami Twp.-based NewPage Holdings Inc., company officials announced.

Verso, a Memphis, Tenn.-based producer of coated papers, announced in January that it had entered into a definitive agreement for to acquire NewPage in a transaction valued at $1.4 billion.

The transaction, which has been unanimously approved by the boards of directors of both companies, is expected to close in the second half of 2014, subject to regulatory approvals, officials said.

NewPage, which produces printing and specialty papers, has about 350 Dayton-area employees.

In a release, Verso said both companies will work “to retain the best talent from Verso and NewPage going forward.”

David J. Paterson, president and chief executive of Verso, will continue to lead the combined company after the closing. The rest of the company’s senior leadership team will consist of Verso executives.
