Officials said these types of models will provide precise data for improved reliability in planning of future system upgrades and asset management. The information generated by Woolpert will include a record of existing facilities, property and right-of-way, topography, utilities and MARTA’s 48 miles of rail tracks.
MARTA provides bus, rail and paratransit services to 1.65 million people in Atlanta and nearby counties.
Woolpert’s six-year contract with MARTA provides for optional annual extensions for up to five additional years, for a total of 10 years. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Woolpert is one of three prime contractors selected for the MARTA project. The firm will serve as lead contractor for the survey components requiring terrestrial laser scanning.
