Yahoo! Japan upgrades Teradata platform

Miami Twp.-based data warehousing company Teradata announced that Yahoo! Japan Corp. has renewed and updated its analytical data systems with Teradata’s latest high-end data warehouse platform, according to a media release.

Yahoo! Japan, headquartered in Tokyo, upgraded to the Teradata Active Enterprise Data Warehouse Platform 6690 to achieve optimum data warehouse performance, company officials said. The Teradata 6690 is designed with multiple tiers of storage technology, including main memory and both high-speed and high-capacity storage drives.

Officials said more than 250 Yahoo! Japan employees now use the Teradata analytics platform daily for such tasks as visualizing and analyzing enormous volumes of data traffic across many services, including online search, shopping and auctions. They also use the technology to measure the business impact of marketing and advertising campaigns, and drive the development of new services.

Because Yahoo! Japan is that country’s largest portal site, its Teradata platform now manages about 120,000 queries daily, officials said.

Teradata has about 350 employees at its world headquarters in Miami Twp.
