Yoga studio invites public to explore healing arts

Karen Moss’ journey toward inner peace began in 1998 when she said she was possibly the most stressed she had ever been. “I had a very demanding job, was working nights and weekends and had beepers and phones going off all hours,” she said. She discovered yoga and said she immediately “fell in love” with it since it was the only time she could take just for herself. “In yoga, I learned how not to think about anything,” Moss said.

What the business does: Moss, a Springboro resident, opened LeeLaa Yoga Studio in Springboro after reaping the many benefits of yoga and teaching it for years. "My husband and three children saw my life changed from the practice," she said. "Yoga helped me with stress and with healing myself."

After becoming a 500-hour Registered Yoga Teacher herself, Moss wanted to offer training to new teachers at her studio in Springboro. LeeLaa offers daily yoga classes for all levels and abilities, massage, Rieki, and reflexology, personalized and customized classes and a yoga school for instructors as well as workplace yoga and private lessons.

How the business started: Moss said that the rewards of the stress relief that resulted from practicing yoga began to trickle into the rest of her life. "At that point quite a few years ago, another yoga studio opened in Dayton and I was able to take the teacher training program," she said. "It took a few years to convince my husband that I could make a career out of yoga." Moss opened LeeLaa five years ago and today the studio employs eight teachers.

Coming up: Moss said in celebration of the five-year anniversary, LeeLaa will be holding an open house on Sept. 14 from 1-4 p.m. The event will give those who have never tried yoga an opportunity to visit the studio and try a class at no charge.

“The benefits are different every individual, physically, emotionally and spiritually,” Moss said. “It’s all in how a student embraces yoga. People come in to take yoga for different reasons — some for stress and some to work on body and spirit. Some people think this is meditation, but really it’s so much more. We teach people to be in the moment when they are here. Our classes are suitable for everyone and are great for flexibility and for healing after injuries. We work with people any way we can.”
