Fairborn man accused of beating, raping woman over multiple days

A 19-year-old Fairborn man is facing charges in Kettering and Fairborn after he allegedly beat and sexually abused a woman over multiple days.

Cameron James Cornell-Hamilton was charged with felonious assault, attempted felonious assault, rape and kidnapping in Fairborn Municipal Court. He’s also facing two counts each of felonious assault and abduction in Kettering Municipal Court.

The woman had injuries “all over her body and include a suspected concussion,” a Kettering police detective wrote in an affidavit. “[She] described the assault as being struck by Cameron’s elbow, fists and feet. She said she was stomped on, including her stomach, choked and head-butted.”

The investigation started Jan. 3 after Fairborn police responded to Margaret Drive on a welfare check. The reportee received an “SOS” text from the victim saying she needed help, according to an affidavit filed by a Fairborn police detective in Fairborn Municipal Court.

When officers arrived they met with the woman, who kept telling officers she wanted to go home.

Around the same time, Fairborn police were contacted by Kettering officers regarding a separate report that the woman’s room in Kettering was in disarray and her mattress had been thrown in a dumpster, according the affidavit.

Kettering and Fairborn police met with the woman on Jan. 4 and learned she was at a bar with Cornell-Hamilton on New Year’s Eve when they ran into someone she used to date. After they went back to her residence, Cornell-Hamilton was mad at her for lying to him about the person and broke one of the metal posts on her bed and used it to hit her legs, according to the affidavit.

He later reportedly threw her mattress in the dumpster.

On New Year’s evening, he made her call off work for the next day and told her she was going to his house even though she did not want to go, according to the affidavit. When they arrived at his home, he reportedly took her cellphone and did a factory reset, which deletes data from the phone.

While at his house, Cornell-Hamilton beat her multiple times and sexually assaulted her, according to the affidavit.

“[She] was scared to do anything, and he would not let [her] leave,” the Fairborn detective wrote. “He told [her] he was not done with [her] yet so [she] could not go home.”

She was eventually able to get her phone while Cornell-Hamilton was sleeping and get it working enough to send the text asking for help, according an affidavit.

Fairborn police arrested Cornell-Hamilton on Tuesday. He’s being held in the Greene County Jail.
