The first of the two shootings was reported at 2:23 p.m. in the 2000 block of Alabama Drive, followed by a call around 3:10 p.m. in the 400 block of East Second Street, according to Xenia police dispatch.
According to a release from Xenia Police, the Alabama Drive shooting was initially reported as an accidental shooting. On arrival, they found a 17-year-old boy in the home’s living room with a gunshot wound to the left knee.
Medics took the boy to Miami Valley Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said that witnesses identified the shooter as a 16-year-old boy, who was found in the area and taken into custody. The gun used in the shooting was also found.
After speaking with the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office, the 16-year-old was booked into the Greene County Juvenile Detention Center on felonious assault charges, which is a second-degree felony.
An 18-year-old who was also present during the Alabama Drive shooting was later found to have a loaded handgun, was arrested and was booked into the Greene County Jail on charges of carrying a concealed weapon, which is a fourth-degree felony.
Police tape surrounded three houses on East Second Street, and police crews from Xenia police and the Greene County Sheriff’s Office were on scene. Law enforcement placed evidence markers in the front yard of one of the homes.
Multiple callers reported hearing gunshots and seeing children running on East Second Street. One caller also said they saw one of them bleeding, and another reported seeing someone run out of a house shooting a gun.
According to police logs, two people had gunshot wounds at the scene and taken to Soin Medical Center, which went on lockdown since a suspect had not been found.
Logs also said that a third victim showed up at the hospital, but it was unclear if the third person had also been shot.
