Big festivals not to miss in 2017

Here is a guide to the major community festivals in Palm Beach County this year.

SOUTH FLORIDA FAIR

This year’s theme is New Orleans, so expect beads, gumbo, Mardi Gras revelry and performances from Dr. John and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, along with the usual midway rides, ice shows and, of course, the racing pigs.

When: Open now until Jan. 29

GARLIC FEST

The festival honoring the stinky bud moves from Delray Beach to Lake Worth this year. In addition to plenty of cooking displays, there is a big music lineup, including Kongos, Taylor Phelan, Andy Childs, The Fabulous Fleetwoods, and Michael Franti & Spearhead.

When: Feb. 10-12

PALM BEACH JEWELRY, ART AND ANTIQUE SHOW

The annual show at the convention center features a range of paintings, sculpture, jewelry and fine arts from 180 exhibitors, plus a lecture series.

When: Feb. 16-21

ARTIGRAS

A President’s Day weekend tradition, the outdoor festival brings national and local artists to Abacoa, along with music and entertainment.

When: Feb. 18-20

STREET PAINTING FESTIVAL

It wouldn’t be February without artists taking chalk to the streets of downtown Lake Worth and leaving a rainbow of colorful impressions behind.

ST. PATRICK’S DAY FESTIVAL

A festival and parade honoring St. Patrick’s Day, veterans and the International Emergency Services community (firefighters, police and paramedics).

TURTLE FEST

Loggerhead Marinelife Center host this free family-friendly event which features up-close encounters with sea turtles; fine art; live music and kids' games.

PALM BEACH JERK FESTIVAL

A festival to enjoy authentic Jamaican music, island food, games, jerk cook-off contests and local vendors with island wares.

4TH ON FLAGLER

The free event features two stages of entertainment, kids activities, military honor ceremony, giant games, food and an awesome fireworks show over the water.

LANTERN FESTIVAL

The annual, emotional, lantern-floating ceremony at the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens is a seriously hot ticket! The event usually sells out a month in advance.

HOLIDAY IN PARADISE

West Palm Beach’s free tropical holiday celebration featuring Sandi, the world’s only 600 ton, 35’ tall sand tree.  The festival features nightly light shows, a Glow 9-hole mini golf course on the West Palm Beach Waterfront.
