Any concerns the ever-prolific Buffalo Killers would experience a dip in production after signing with Warner Music Group subsidiary Sun Pedal Recordings in late 2013 has been squashed.

In late May, the brothers Gabbard, Zach (vocals, bass) and Andy (vocals, guitar), along with Joey Sebaali (drums) and new addition Sven Kahns (guitar), released the excellent label debut “Heavy Reverie.”

Now, just six months after that full-length, Buffalo Killers is dropping an EP, “Fireball of Sulk,” an equally ripping collection of guitar rock with an early 1970s influence.

The group, with members based in Cincinnati, Dayton and Middletown, celebrates the occasion with a performance at Canal Public House in Dayton on Friday.

The Gabbards recently shared their thoughts on the new EP, which was recorded with Jim Wirt (Fiona Apple, Incubus) at Crushtone Studio in Cleveland, and the future of the band.

Zach: “We’ve been trying to bump things up a little quicker and we’ve gotten really well acquainted with Jim Wirt. We recorded ‘Heavy Reverie’ last August and it went so well we went back a couple of months later and did this record. Jim is into working fast and wasn’t second guessing what we were doing. We just went in, rehearsed there and knocked it all out in two days.”

Andy: “Working with Sven is awesome. I’ve known him for a long time and he’s just great. He joined us in the spring of 2013 and I feel like him and I are the same person as guitar players. Being a four-piece has opened up a lot of possibilities of doing cool things I’ve always wanted to do like double guitar harmony parts. I’ve done it on recordings but now we can do it live and get more of that stereophonic effect with him on the other side. Sven is a true pro. I’ve learned a lot from him since we’ve been playing together.”

Zach: “We’ve been back in the studio. We recorded a couple of songs down at Candyland (Studio in Cincinnati). We have a new 45 with Ampline coming out at the beginning of next year. We just keeping pushing, man. We’re planning on doing a new record soon. We’ve always got something coming up.”

Andy: “My brother and I only care about putting songs together. At this point we just want to release as much as we can, because that’s what brings us the most joy. We’re just lucky we have people that believe in us, like Sun Pedal and (previous label) Alive Records, so we can keep releasing records. That’s what we’re all about.”
