Our Dayton breweries love to add their signature flavor to festive happenings throughout the year.

Yellow Springs Brewery, as always, contributed their special Springsfest brew to Springsfest that happened earlier this summer. Similarly, Dayton Beer Company is working on not just one, but three specialty brews for the Germanfest Picnic happening this weekend.

Two of the DBC brews were ready to go last week, giving Germanfest Picnic Chairman John Koerner a chance to taste and give the beers the official Germanfest Picnic stamp of approval.

“One is a nice pilsner, a very easy drinking beer. The other is more of an amber lager, a little more my style,” Koerner said.

The third brew, a “dunkel lager,” is still brewing in DBC’s tanks and wasn’t ready for sampling just yet. However, Koerner said DBC’s specialty Germanfest Picnic beers were all a hit last year and sold very well.

The special fest batches will all be available, along with so many others, at the 35th Annual Germanfest Picnic happening Friday to Sunday, Aug. 10-12, at RiverScape MetroPark.
