Historic Dayton restaurant on auction block Thursday

The Stockyards Inn restaurant at 1065 Springfield Street in Dayton – which closed its doors for good on June 30 — will be auctioned off in its entirety on Thursday, according to the restaurant’s owner, Bob Bartusch.

The restaurant, property and contents will be offered for sale by auctioneer Frank Lewis & Sons as a turn-key operation, and no items, including antiques and memorabilia, are scheduled to be sold separately, according to the auction web site and Bartusch.

If no bids reach the minimum reserve level, Bartusch said he will likely schedule a second auction in late August or early September to sell off items and equipment individually. Doors are scheduled to open at 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, and the auction will commence at 6 p.m.

The facility has operated as a restaurant since 1900.

Bartusch, 67, and his wife Jane have owned the restaurant for 35 years. The couple bought it in 1978, two years after Bob Bartusch became manager. When his restaurant closed, it had been for sale for more than a year. Bartusch said the restaurant’s customer base had dwindled because of “age, retirement and death.”

The auction web site includes a photo gallery of some of the memorabilia and antiques inside the restaurant.
