14 local businesses now making moonshine, vodka, beer, other spirits

Rundown of small business who have jumped in the booze and brew business

The Dayton area is a heck of a lot boozier than it was even a few years ago.

A March 2012 change to Ohio law opened the door for the craft distillery and brewery now making hometown beer and spirits around the Miami Valley.

With the number of businesses that have popped up lately, you’d think Prohibition was suddenly lifted.

As my colleague Mark Fisher explains, House Bill 243 allows small breweries to serve samples and to sell their brews from tasting rooms without buying a nearly $4,000 special permit. In addition, more small-batch distilleries are able to operate in Ohio and offer samples of their craft spirits from their own tasting rooms.

Below is a quick run down of the Miami Valley distilleries and brewery that have opened in recent years.
