Washington Twp. restaurant closes

The sports bar Champps has closed its Washington Twp. location, Tammy Engle, a 14-year employee confirmed today.

“We are closed and will definitely not be reopening,” she said.

The restaurant at 7880 Washington Village Dr. opened 15 years ago and employed 72 people, Engle said.

They were notified of the restaurant’s closing today.

“It is definitely a lot of family here,” said Engle as she choked back tears.

The Wichita, Kan.-based F & H Acquisition Corp., the parent company of Fox & Hound and Champps, filed for bankruptcy protection on Dec. 15. The company owns and operates 101 restaurants, including 50 Fox & Hound units, 35 Champps locations and 16 Bailey’s outlets, according to Nation’s Restaurant News.

Champps’ location in West Chester remains open.

Champps closed its three location in Greater Cleveland in November.

In its Chapter 11 filing, the company listed debt of about $119 million, including $68.4 million in first-lien secured loans; $39.8 million in second-lien secured loans; and $11.2 million to landlords, trade vendors and other unsecured creditors.

Senior creditors have agreed to provide a $9.6 million loan and $3.3 million in letters of credit for operations during the bankruptcy proceedings, F&H told the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Wilmington, Del. In an undefined period before the bankruptcy filing, F&H had closed about 24 restaurants, the company told the court.

We have reached out to the company for comment.
