When it came time to organize the bill for his Outreach for Animals benefit Bless the Beasts, Jeffrey Stoneking focused on variety. That’s exactly what the audience will get when comedienne Patsy B, blues musician Nerak Roth Patterson, Elvis tribute Ryan Roth & the Comeback Special and theatrical rockers Mr. STONEking perform at Victoria Theater in Dayton on Saturday, Oct. 19.

Stoneking, the leader of theatrical rockers Mr. STONEking and the producer of the fundraising concert, took a few minutes recently to discuss Bless the Beasts.

ANIMAL RESCUE

“I’ve been friends with Tim Harrison from Outreach for Animals for a number of years. I’ve always wanted to do something to benefit him. Three years ago I staged my own personal benefit as a trial run and it just grew from that.”

ECLECTIC ENTERTAINMENT

“If you’re looking for music that no longer exists, we’ve got it. We’ve got everything covered, from Elvis Presley with Ryan Roth’s Comeback Special to music of the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s with Mr. STONEking, and we’ve put our own touches to it. Then we’ve got Nerak Roth Patterson, who is really the future of blues. Aside from the fact it’s for a good cause, the entertainment value is up there.”

NERAK ROTH PATTERSON

“I shared a classroom at Antioch with Nerak Roth Patterson and I always told him, ‘Where I go, you’re going.’ He’s a fantastic blues guitarist. He plays with BB King and Guy Davis and he has Jethro Tull members on his album.”

PATSY B

“Patsy B is an observational comic from Columbus. I had her host the previous benefit concert I did for Tim. She cracked me up. She’s very funny. She’s not afraid to admit to anything. I told her, of course, that it’s a G-rated show.”

THE COMEBACK SPECIAL

“In my pursuit of filling an entire bill, I was invited to Gilly’s in January and I got to experience Ryan Roth’s Comeback Special. I’m not a big Elvis fan, although I’ve always respected him. I saw this and went, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me. I understand it now.’ So we had a show! That’ll bring the Elvis fans out and they’re diehards.”

VIVA VARIETY

“I miss the days of variety shows. It’s difficult to stand apart from the crowd when you’ve got everybody doing the same thing on a stage. It all becomes a blend and I wanted something different than that. That’s my own personal desire and interest and I like to share those things.”
