MIDDLETOWN —For the Middletown heavy metal band Superkreep, a big stage just equals more fire in the belly.
The group will be playing to a crowd of approximately 20,000 people at this year’s X-Fest, held at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds Sunday, Sept. 12. According to frontman Greg Banks, nerves should not be a hurdle.
“When I see two people in a bar, we still give it our all, but when you see 100 people or 20,000 people, we step it up quite a bit,” Banks said.
Superkreep was one of four winning bands of this summer’s Battle for X-Fest. Radio station 103.9 FM, “The X” was a major sponsor of the event. The competition, and its numerous rounds, were held every Friday night in June. Things concluded late in the month, with results based on online fan votes.
National acts at this year’s show include Shinedown, Seether, Sick Puppies and Papa Roach.
Thus far, Superkreep has shared the stage with members of Warrant, Lamb of God and Flaw.
“We’re like A1 sauce,” Banks said. “We’re good with anything.”
Superkreep is six years old. As a metal band, the group draws from Pantera for inspiration, as well as vintage Lynrd Skynrd songs and 80s speed metal acts.
Josh Allen is the lead singer of Admitted Dilemma, also playing at X-Fest. The group, which practices in Franklin, was another one of the Battle for X-Fest’s successes. Like Banks, Allen sees the exposure that comes along with the high-profile gig.
“This will be the biggest show we’ve ever played,” Allen said. “We’re just a local band from Franklin, but we’re still pumped up about this.”
As for Superkreep, their demand will carry past X-Fest. The group will be playing with Skid Row at Dayton’s McGuffy’s House of Rock Friday, Sept. 24.
Still, X-Fest remains the focus, and Superkreep’s heads are held high.
“Of all the group’s that are playing X-Fest, I do believe we’re the heaviest,” He said. “That’s a big thing for us.”
