Philharmonic’s Classical and Classical Connections Concert programs changed for the weekend

This week’s Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra concerts will be held as scheduled but the inclement weather has resulted in some program changes. At 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9 and Saturday, Jan. 11, artistic Director Neal Gittleman and the Dayton Philharmonic will present “The Art of Transformation” with a new repertoire, focusing on British Composer Edward Elgar and his Enigma Variations. The concert will include Henry Purcell’s Music for Abdelazer, or the Moor’s Revenge; Ludwig von Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1; and Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations.

The Classical Connections Concert at 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 10 — which includes Gittleman’s description and explanations of the pieces— will focus on Elgar as well, featuring three of his compositions, beginning with Pomp & Circumstance March No. 4.

Concerts are held at the Schuster Center with tickets ranging from $9 to $39.
