Dayton area music fans have another location to hear live jazz since The Liquid Room recently opened. The new club is at 507 Miamisburg-Centerville Road (Ohio 725), in the Normandy Square shopping center, behind Blockbuster Video.

Currently open Wednesday through Sunday nights, The Liquid Room features jazz on Thursdays.

Musicians perform on a raised stage at one end of a dance floor, which is surrounded by tall chairs, cafe tables and stylish couches. There is a full bar plus a kitchen with a uniformed chef.

The posh interior is comfortable and colorfully lit. Guitarist Tim Berens helped inaugurate the new venue during its opening week.

“The Liquid Room is a gorgeous club,” he said. “I loved playing there.”

Berens is scheduled to return this Thursday, Nov. 18, and Patricia Berg will sing with her trio on Dec. 2. The music begins at 8 p.m. and there is a $5 cover charge.

The jazz-rock band WindJammer also has performed at the club, and lead guitarist Dick Macaulay was very impressed.

“The acoustics were great at The Liquid Room, and the lighting was a nice bonus,” he said.

“Our friends that came out commented on how classy and modern The Liquid Room is,” he added. “They were able to have normal speaking level conversations while WindJammer was playing.”

“Our place offers a great venue for live music,” said General Manager Bob Silverii. “There’s no other place to hear live jazz down here south of town.”

The Liquid Room is still building a clientele, but Silverii is optimistic that the business will grow steadily. “We’re starting fresh, and there are a lot of folks who don’t know that we’re even open,” he said. “But all you’ve got to do is get (the club) packed a couple times, and then everybody will realize what’s going on.”

Macaulay is glad to see another live music venue in the area.

“Dayton is starving for something new, fresh and alive,” he said. “The Liquid Room is a new facility with great ambiance. It certainly has strong possibilities for becoming a cornerstone for weeknight jazz.”
