Fabulous hooked rugs are not the only items you’ll find at The Fine Art Center’s 18th annual Holiday Gift Gallery at Town & Country Shopping Center in Kettering. But they make a great focal point, and are too beautiful to put underfoot.
Seen through the main window is fine woven art by Patti Tubbs, Phyllis Crabill, Carolyn Wimer and Marlene Weaver.
Tubbs imagined a large red Santa in “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear” in the midst of cottages, mistletoe and a Christmas tree. She also crafted a “Tree of Life” among others. Crabill stitched together a large-scale home and garden scene, and a long, light blue runner with white snowflakes. Wimer crafted an idyllic winter wonderland, a long runner with stars, and a Pennsylvania Dutch style rug. Weaver stitched a long floral runner and tiny round mats, among others.
In addition to the usual art, jewelry and photography by member artists, the gift gallery has hundreds of uniquely original items that would be perfect for that hard-to-please person on your list.
You’ll also find these types of gifts created by 25 local consignment artists: jewelry, glass/mixed-media ornaments, decorated gourds, functional wood, jewelry boxes, glass masks, sculpture, functional/decorative pottery, hand-woven fashion accessories, furniture and paintings.
Finally, check out Bonnie Kuntz’s series “Dance Your Dreams.” She is featuring pastel ballerinas and also humorous watercolor paintings titled “Chicken Dance” and “Line Dance.”
“I like to illustrate that movement is necessary as you strive to move closer to your dreams being fulfilled,” said Kuntz. “Standing in one place and waiting for dreams to come true pales in comparison to the joy of movement found in the reality of dancing towards your dreams.”
If you visit the Fine Art Center, then you definitely will not be standing in one place as the numerous types and styles of art items in various media will warrant your attention.
