The group Vocalosity celebrates the human music instrument — the voice.

The newly formed all a cappella show brings together performers from reality shows such as “The Voice” and “The Sing-Off” and national performing tours in a different type of concert featuring a range of music.

Vocalosity will be in town next Friday, Feb. 12, at the Clark State Performing Arts Center, part of the Club Kuss series.

A cappella music has hit the right notes with several people, given the popularity of the TV show “The Sing-Off” and the “Pitch Perfect” movies.

One of the key people responsible for those was Deke Sharon, who created Vocalosity as the next step.

The group brings performers of different vocal ranges together — altos, sopranos, baritones and bass combine with two beat-boxers during the show.

Bass vocalist Bryant Vance said it’s a cool community to be a part of. The recently kicked-off tour and Vocalosity’s first CD only adds to the excitement.

“It’s been awesome. The love has been outpouring from the small towns to the big cities,” said Vance, whose background is in musical theater.

One of the things Vocalosity is able to do is break down the perceptions of a cappella music, Vance said, as most people have an expectation or label:

“There’s a fine line and how will you do it without becoming a cheesy display. Within five minutes the expectations are blown. Even as performers it’s a slap in the face.

“People tell us it was not what they expected it to be, and they didn’t know a show about the human voice could be so inspiring,” he said.

A testament to the show’s power, he said, came when Vance looked out into one audience and saw a child of about 6 along with grandparents in their 70s and their faces were lit up the entire show.

The group’s first album was released on Jan. 15.

It shows off the wide range of songs that will be performed in concert, from pop and rock legends such as Michael Jackson and Led Zeppelin to contemporary stars such as Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran and Walk the Moon to older performers Peggy Lee and Louis Prima.
