SuburbiCon will host comic book artists and writers from the region who will display and sell their creations, said Andy Dailey, cultural arts program supervisor for Kettering. The event is for all ages but has an emphasis on activities for families and children.
“We don’t want the event to be just a place to buy things,” said Dailey. “We want them to become interested in the creative side of comic books and the activities that go into that.”

Professional comic book artists Frank James Bailey, Allison Dickson, Todd Beistel, Amy Kollar Anderson and many others will be on hand. The Wright State University Comic Book League and Chalk N’ Awe , a sidewalk chalk artist will also attend.
“We want being a comic book fan to be acceptable,” Dailey said. “There is a healthy community of comic book creators in the region, and we want to demystify the art.”
New comic themed activities are planned this year. The Fan Art Contest will return and the winner will design next year’s SurburbiCon poster art.
There will also be goody bags for cosplayers and as well as team challenges and relay activities for people who love superhero characters and stories. Children will be able to create a mask and cape during free art-making activities and contribute to a “Mega-Big” comic page.
