1. “Love In Your Pocket” by Freekbass (from Cincinnati), featuring Sammi Garett

Kicking off this playlist with this fantastically funky duo! Their modern sound and style put a smile on my face.

2. “Fantastic Voyage” by Lakeside (from Dayton)

Now that we’ve set the tone, let’s dip back into Dayton’s history for a fun flashback to some of Dayton’s funk legacy:

3. “Slide” by Slave (from Dayton)

Might as well slide one more Dayton funk song in. (This is a dance party after all.)

4. “Brass in Pocket” by The Pretenders

Around the same time that funk music was gaining popularity, Chrissie Hynde from Akron was making hits with The Pretenders. (May need to turn the volume up to find your strut to this one!)

5. “Walk Away” by The James Gang

While we are lingering in the ’70s, enjoy one of my favorite rock songs from that decade, which comes from Kent, Ohio:

6.“Cannonball” by The Breeders (from Dayton)

During the early ’90s alt rock heyday, this song put Dayton on the map. Personally, it takes me back to a magical summer and a simpler time.

7. “Glad Girls” by Guided by Voices (from Dayton)

GBV is arguably the most influential band to come out of Dayton. Here is one of their classics:

8. “New Rules” by King Serpent (from Dayton)

OK, enough time reminiscing. What’s happening now? How about this track from a very cool local couple:

9. “Fever” by The Black Keys (from Akron)

Did you know the uber popular indie rock band is from Ohio? Yep! And this tune is one of many ridiculously good tracks from them:

10. “Paid & Rowdy” by Nightbeast (from Dayton)

This song makes me feel like I’m back with all my friends again! If you’re missin’ being out and about in Dayton, this really helps:
