THE HEADLINERS

The Big River Get Down music festival — presented by Miller Lite — will begin when the doors open at noon on Saturday, Sept. 9 and will be headlined by The Revivalists.

“The Revivalists are doing a lot of big things. They’ve been on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live! and ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show,’ ‘Today Show,’ and ‘Conan O’ Brien,’ so they’ve gained a lot of popularity, and with David Shaw being from Hamilton, and the event becoming more popular, the excitement for this year has exceeded past years,” said Adam Helms, director of resident services, City of Hamilton.

David Shaw, frontman for The Revivalists, graduated from Hamilton High School in 2001. He currently lives in New Orleans.

In addition to their live and television performances, The Revivalists have been named as one of Rolling Stone’s “10 Artists You Need to Know.”

This is the sixth consecutive year that The Revivalists have performed at RiversEdge.

The festival will kick off with a solo acoustic performance by Shaw on Friday night at the Fitton Center. The acoustic performance on Friday is sold out. In fact, tickets for the acoustic performance sold out in just a few hours.

ABOUT THE MUSIC FEST

This will be the third year for the festival, which was started in 2015.

The festival also will feature performances by The Record Company, The Marcus King Band, Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band, Atlas Road Crew, Smooth Hound Smith and Naughty Professor.

General admission tickets for the festival are $28 in advance and $35 day of the festival and are still available.

A new VIP ticket package option was introduced this year. However, the 116 available VIP tickets sold out in 30 seconds the day they went on sale, organizers say.

The festival will conclude on Saturday night with an after-party from 11:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. in the Fitton Center ballroom. The after party will include performances by Space & Harmony (11:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m.) and Rumplesteelskin (1 a.m.-2 a.m.). These bands feature band members from The Revivalists and Naughty Professor. Tickets for the after party are $20.

Helms said Shaw came up with the idea for the festival, because he wanted to give something back to his hometown. Proceeds from the festival will be donated toward the City of Hamilton’s 4th of July fireworks and the RiversEdge concert series.

“This year, we should be close to a sell-out, if not a sell-out. That would be the first time we’ve ever sold-out an event at RiversEdge Amphitheater,” Helms said.
