Waffle Shop, a Dayton tradition, is adding something new this year

Waffle irons will soon be firing on all cylinders in downtown Dayton next week.

Christ Episcopal Church's 87th annual Waffle Shop, a Dayton tradition, is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 15-18.

Hundreds of Daytonians show up at the church at 20 W. First St. for golden brown waffles, juicy sausage, salads, sandwiches, soups and an array of desserts.

For the first time this year, one of eight waffle irons will be dedicated to making gluten-free potato waffles that one volunteer described as having a potato pancake flavor and being "yummy."

The event is a fundraiser.

"With the help of our diners in 2015, Christ Episcopal Church was able to provide more than $12,000 in grants,” Nancy Evans, the event chair said in a statement.

A carryout or dine-in order, which includes sausage and a waffle, is $6.50.

Waffles are $3.50 each. Add 50 cents for topping: cherry, apple, blueberry , sugar free strawberry or whipped topping.
