100+ Daytonians pass the Peeps (and toilet paper) in hilarious video

There is only one thing to do with Peeps after Easter: pass them.

Members of Medway Church and others did just that in a video the church posted to Facebook on Monday.

Kristen Frank, the guest experience director of the church located at 2550 S. Dayton Lakeview Road in New Carlisle, said she edited together more than 100 clips from people passing Peeps and toilet paper for the video.

“What we’ve been trying to do over the last few weeks is keep people connected,” she said. “There is a lot of negative on Facebook. I think everyone is longing for connections and something fun.”

A range of Peep-passers from a toddler in a swing, to doggies, to a turtle to a pastor took part in the video.

Clips were solicited during the church’s Easter morning service, which was broadcast online due to concerns about the spread of the coronavirus.

In a typical year, church members would have met the Saturday before Easter to fill 25,000 plastic eggs for a hunt the following day, typically attended by 3,000 people.

Frank, an organizer of the DaytonStrong CityFest benefit held in September, in support of those affected by both the Aug. 4 mass shooting and 15 Memorial Day tornadoes, said church leaders were a little afraid of what would happen to the spirit of togetherness when service went online.

The congregation of 1,500 members has never been as united, she said.

The church is accepting donations for grocery kits and delivering them to families in need.

Grocery delivery can be requested on the church's website, MedwayChurch.org.

The creativity that has resulted has been cool to see, Frank said.

“We are rolling with the punches and it is working,” she added.
