Agape for Youth needs items for families

In her weekly column, staff writer Meredith Moss publishes wish lists of non-profit organizations in our area. If you have a list you’d like to submit, contact Meredith: MMoss@coxohio.com

For more than 25 years, Agape for Youth, Inc. has been offering stability and supportive services to the children and families entrusted to their care.

The Agape Reunification Services program serves those who’ve been referred for services by Montgomery County Job and Family services. The families participating in this program are being reunified after the child(ren) have been living in an out of the home environment — be that foster care, or living with a relative.

“These families are doing what is necessary, working with Montgomery County Department of Job and Family Services and Agape for Youth, Inc. to be reunited as a family unit and stay together as a family,” explains Sandra Geib, the organization’s director of development and marketing.

Geib says many if not all of these families are recipients of assistance, including the Ohio EBT card.

This is where our readers can make a difference. The EBT card does not provide for the purchase of hygiene products or laundry items. You can donate these items to be distributed to the families who are participating in the Agape Reunification Services program.

Here’s what they need:

  • Bath wash
  • Baby lotion
  • Baby powder
  • Diaper cream
  • Body wash
  • Deodorant
  • Shampoo
  • Laundry soap
  • Dish soap
  • Antibacterial hand soap
  • Paper towels
  • Cleaning products for counters, bathrooms and floors

Donations can be dropped off at the Agape for Youth, Inc. office located at 2621 Dryden Road, Ste. 202, Dayton, OH 45439. The Agape office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Geib says her agency is always in need of math and science tutors for elementary, middle and high school students and also needs English and Spanish tutors for middle and high school youngsters as well. Tutoring is a paid position.

“And, of course, we are always looking for more tutors to help in the areas of reading and writing for our younger children,” Geib adds.
