Biannual Bra drive will benefit area women

Soma Intimates hopes to collect 150,000 bras by next year.

The Soma Intimates bra drive is hoping women in the Miami Valley who have bras sitting in the drawer that are never worn will donate them anytime now through Aug. 14.

All of the “Giving is Beautiful” donations will go to the YWCA to help needy women locally. The project is also used to help women who have lost personal items in the wake of destruction from natural disasters.

Any non-wearable donations are sent to The Bra Recyclers, a textile recycling organization that ensures no bra ends up in a landfill.

First launched in 2010, this is the third biannual bra donation initiative for Soma which has collected and given away more than 68,000 bras to date. The goal this time around is to collect 150,000 bras by next year.

“What we learned is that there are thousands upon thousands of women across the country desperately in need of a bra” says Laurie Van Brunt, Soma Intimate’s brand president. “A bra is one of the least donated but most needed items and makes a big difference to women who are struggling financially to even put food on the table.”

No purchase is necessary. Drop your bras off anytime through Aug. 14. The Soma shop is located next to Chico’s at the Greene in Beavercreek.
