DIY under $10: peppermint sugar scrub

As the gift giving season starts, here is a quick and easy idea for people who want to pamper themselves.

This gift can be customized to fit with anyone’s scent preferences, but we thought we would go with peppermint to stay with the season.

Supplies needed

Items I purchased:

• Peppermint essential oil — $5.99 at your local health food store

Items I already had:

• White sugar

• Vegetable oil

• Red food coloring

• Spoon

• Mason jar

Directions

1. Mix two cups of granulated sugar with 1/3 cup of vegetable oil and a few drops of peppermint oil.

2. Thoroughly mix these items and then separate them into two bowls.

3. In one bowl, add a few drops or red food coloring and mix thoroughly.

4. Open your mason jar and spoon in a bit of the red sugar. Press it into the bottom of the jar.

5. Apply a few spoonfuls of the white sugar on top of the red sugar in the jar. Press it down and repeat this step alternating between the red and white sugars.

6. Fill your jar completely to the top of the jar and place the lid back on.

7. You can wrap a ribbon or place a label on this to dress it up for your parties or housewarmings, but either way the recipient is going to be thanking you when they have soft, smooth skin!
