Stivers grad wins international competiton

A Dayton native Jasmine Taylor has won her first international design competition.

As we told you earlier this week, the 2006 graduate of Stivers School of the Arts was a finalist in the 2014 WishYouWereVegan Shoe Design Contest, which promotes cruelty free fashion.

Seventeen designers from around the world competed in the contest, a collaboration between Scuola Manuela Mari of Italy and Krze Studio of Los Angeles. Taylor’s submission received more than 1,100 likes on Facebook.

Her shoes will be handmade in Italy with vegan materials and auctioned on Ebay. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Love Infinitely Project Animal Fund.

“I would like to thank everyone who has supported me and voted for me… God bless you all,” Taylor, a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Merchandising in Los Angeles, posted on Facebook.

Taylor, a 26-year-old footwear design student at Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia, told me she was particularly thankful for the hometown support.
