Lookout Tower

Along a lonely, winding road in Hills and Dales Park stands a turret-shaped stone tower. Known by a number of names, including Frankenstein’s Castle, and the Witch’s Tower, the original purpose of the structure was to provide visitors a beautiful view of the Community Country Club.

Built by the boys of the National Youth administration, the tower was constructed of stone salvaged by the city from condemned buildings. It was completed in 1941. The structure has since lost its wooden roof and now stands open to the weather. The metal door is long gone, having been filled in so that no one can enter.
