High prices create black market for diabetic test strips

Re "Costly glucose test strips a money pit for diabetics," March 8: If you are using name-brand strips, please contact the manufacturer. They have patient-assistance programs.

There is no cure for diabetes, but diet and exercise go a long way to reduce insulin requirements and prolong long-term circulatory effects.

For those who buy test strips from eBay and other sites, be sure you check the expiration dates. If not, your readings may be incorrect.

My guess is we will be bombarded with these kinds of stories so the Dayton Daily News can push President Obama's health plan. Under Medicaid, supplies and doctor appointments are paid for, and there are other community resources to help pay for medicine and supplies.
