HOW YOU CAN HELP
Make a Difference spotlights small ways you can make a big difference in the community each week. If your nonprofit organization has a wish list it would like to share, please contact Meredith Moss: MMoss@coxohio.com. Please leave a daytime phone number.
Last year, the Beavercreek store was No. 1 in the company for collections, with 4,722 bras collected.
The“Giving is Beautiful,” drive was launched in 2010, and we’ve been sharing information about it ever since. Many of us have bras sitting in our drawers that we don’t wear — including new ones.
What we’ve learned through the years is that a bra is one of the least donated but most needed items —women who are struggling financially simply can’t afford to buy or replace them.
The project is held in conjunction with the National Network to End Domestic Violence. In our area, this year the bras will go to the Family Violence Prevention Center of Greene County.
Nationally the project has collected and donated over 265,000 bras over the years. Any non-wearable donations are sent to The Bra Recyclers, a textile recycling organization that ensures no bra ends up in a landfill.
HOW TO DONATE:
The bra drive officially ends Aug. 12, but the shop accepts donations year round.
