Moraine police Sgt. Andrew Parish said the stop was related to a traffic violation but wasn’t sure of the specific offense.
The Jeep fled the traffic stop, heading north against one-way traffic on Kettering Boulevard.
The officer did not pursue the vehicle, Parish said.
Moraine fire and police dispatchers received multiple 911 calls that the Jeep hit another vehicle less than two miles from the initial attempted traffic stop, according to police.
The crash was in the 3100 block of Kettering Boulevard, near Edgefield Street.
The 911 callers also reported the driver of the Jeep was running from the crash, police said.
Officers responded to the area and began providing medical care to two people.
The driver of the second vehicle had a life-threatening injury. Fire personnel attempted life-saving care, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
Medics transported the passenger in the Jeep to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers arrested the driver of the Jeep behind a nearby business. He was also take to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Kettering Boulevard is closed as crews continue to investigate.
