1-year-old Dayton boy hit by car backing out of driveway dies

A 1-year-old boy who was hospitalized after a vehicle backing out of a driveway in Dayton hit him Wednesday has died.

Avion Terrell Chatman, of Dayton, died Sunday at Dayton Children’s Hospital, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office. An autopsy will be performed to determine his cause and manner death.

A 39-year-old Dayton man was backing a 2006 Buick Lucerne out of a driveway in the 4500 block of Bluehaven Drive Wednesday afternoon when the toddler was hit, according to a Dayton Police Department crash report.

The boy was transported to Dayton Children’s Hospital with suspected serious injuries. No other injuries were reported.
