When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke, said Assistant Chief Brian Beaver.
At least one fire hydrant was frozen, and others were partially operational following a weekend of bitterly cold temperatures.
“Crews encountered freezing fire hoses, slippery conditions and difficulties staying warm due to prolonged operations in the frigid conditions,” Beaver said.
South Dixie Drive was temporarily closed between West Dorothy Lane and Old Lane Avenue as crews battled the flames.
No one was inside the business when the fire started and no injuries were reported.
Heavy fire could be seen coming through the roof of the store. Drone images from late Monday morning showed the roof was gone.
Beaver said the building is a total loss. The damage estimate is still being calculated.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. It’s not clear if foul play is suspected.
