A man is in the hospital after a reported shooting and car crash in the 1800 block of North Main Street Monday evening.

In a crash report, Dayton police said that the driver was shot in the 200 block of Delaware Avenue and fled toward North Main Street. The report says that the victim apparently lost control and drove off the road, crashing into two houses' hand rails before crashing into a light pole in a parking lot.

Police wrote that the victim, a 20-year-old black man, was transported to Grandview Hospital with suspected serious injuries.

The report also lists another passenger in the vehicle, but said that he was not injured in the shooting or crash.

According to Montgomery County Regional Dispatch records, emergency crews were flagged down at 6:59 p.m. Dispatchers also received several 911 calls reporting a crash and a possible shooting.

In scanner traffic, we heard emergency crews say a woman ran up to them saying someone had been murdered.

One caller said that there had been a crash, and that there was a man on the ground and bleeding. Another caller described the victim as a young black man in “critical condition.”
