David Shrider, professor at Miami University, reportedly died while backpacking in Alaska

A Miami University professor died while he was backpacking in Alaska, the university announced Saturday afternoon. David Shrider, 52, is listed as an associate professor of finance and global studies and the director of global business initiatives on Miami University’s website.

Shrider, from Oxford, reportedly fell 150 feet Friday down the slope of Donoho Peak in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve near Kennecott, our media partner WCPO reported Saturday. He was reported dead on the scene.

Shrider was named Outstanding Professor by the Miami University Associated Student Government in 2020, a Facebook post from the university’s Farmer School of Business reported.
