After election, restaurant owner offers shots ‘to anyone who needs it’

A restaurant owner with ties to the Dayton area offered his Facebook friends a free shot (or more) of vodka “for anyone who needs it” today in the wake of the election.

One catch: The restaurant is in Orlando, Florida.

"I am giving everyone who needs one a FREE SHOT OR TWO of Vodka at Funky Monkey Tomorrow.. come and get one , two or three shots… while supplies last…," was the post authored at about 1 a.m. today, Nov. 9, by Eddie Nickell, founder of Funky Monkey Wine Company restaurant in Orlando.

Minutes later, Nickell posted an image of a bottle of Absolut Vodka and wrote, in all caps, “FREE ABSOLUT OR EQUIVALENT TO ANYONE WHO NEEDS IT TOMORROW AT FUNKY MONKEY POINTE ORLANDO.”

One of his friends responded, “I need a bottle after this election,” while another wrote, “I don’t drink, but now’s a good time.”

Nickell was raised in Miamisburg and held several restaurant positions in the Dayton area before moving to Florida. He was a server at Rene’s At the Dayton Marriott, manager of Delphine’s at Holiday Inn Dayton Mall, and, for four years in the early 1990s, was service captain at the prestigious, now-defunct l’Auberge restaurant in Kettering.

Nickell and partner Nicholas Olivieri today operate multiple restaurants in the Orlando area.

Like Ohio, Florida was considered a batleground state in Tuesday’s presidential election, and like Ohio, it was carried by Donald Trump.
