âI have very mixed emotions about leaving Dayton and accepting the City Manager position in Kalispell,â Howington said. âMy decision is based heavily on personal family considerations at this time. But the opportunity also will allow me to accept new challenges and remain engaged in the type of leadership work I have enjoyed throughout my career in public administration.
âI regret leaving Dayton because I feel there is great momentum building here, despite the difficult economic challenges that have hit this region hard. And I also realize there are tough budget challenges facing Kalispell as well. No city is immune to the difficult economic circumstances facing our nation, so I know there will be much hard work ahead in my new role.â
City Manager Rashad Young said, âJane has been a very important part of our leadership team over the past two years. Despite budget constraints, she has provided a steady hand for front-line operating departments struggling to reduce costs while still delivering high quality services. I appreciate her service to Dayton, but I also understand her desire to find a position that better fits her family obligations at this time. We wish her the best of luck in all that she does.â
Young said he will be re-evaluating the duties of the Assistant City Manager position before taking any action regarding a possible replacement.
