The man has been identified as David Muncy of Dayton.
Authorities said just before noon on Tuesday, Springfield police arrested Muncy at the Wal-Mart store on Bechtle Avenue.
Investigators said Muncy stole about $100 worth of men’s razors. However, Muncy was eventually released.
German Township police said Muncy then went to the Upper Valley Mall, where Muncy was seen stuffing small tools down his pants in the Sears store. Surveillance video shows Muncy leaving the store.
Loss prevention associates were seen running out of the store to catch him. Muncy then jumped into a car, and while backing out of a parking space, he struck an associate from Sears.
Moments later, German Township officers spotted Muncy’s car and started to chase him. The chase went from Upper Valley Pike to Route 4 and then onto Interstate 70 toward Montgomery County, where troopers eventually took over the pursuit.
Investigators said Muncy managed to get away. Officers did not know who Muncy was until a Wal-Mart employee where he was arrested earlier in the day saw surveillance video on News Center 7 and called police.
Police in Miami Township said they stopped Muncy last December near the Dayton mall on suspicion of theft. However, he was never arrested, but was ticketed for using a fake handicapped placard.
Muncy’s last known address was in the 200 block of West McPherson in Dayton. There are now warrants out for his arrest.
