Dayton man’s canoe capsizes, prompts boat search at Kiser Lake

A Dayton man and his son were fishing today on Kiser Lake when their canoe swamped.

They were able to pull the boat to shore, got into their vehicle and drove home before a park visitor spotted the capsized watercraft and reported it to rangers, Ohio Department of Natural Resources spokesman Eric Heis said.

The Dayton Police Department responded to the canoe owner’s home, where they found him safe about an hour and a half after his canoe was discovered, Heis said.

Those in a similar situation is urged to call #ODNR on their mobile phone to report their swamped or overturned boat. Also, anyone who spots such a boat is urged to call, he said.

FIRST REPORT

A capsized canoe found this evening on Kiser Lake leads crews to launch boats in case anyone is in need of rescue.

The boats were launched sometime around 8 p.m. at Kiser Lake State Park, 4880 Ohio 235 in Jackson Twp. near St. Paris in Champaign County after the overturned watercraft was discovered.

Several fire departments are on scene but there are no reports of anyone missing or injured, according to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office.
