Renovations to shut down new downtown bar temporarily

Spanish-themed tapas bar overlooking the Great Miami River will reopen in 4 to 6 weeks, co-founder says.

Downtown Dayton tapas restaurant Bar Granada will close temporarily for renovations after the close of business this Saturday, April 20, one of the tapas bar's co-founders said today, April 19.

The bar at 5 W. Monument Ave. across from a Dayton fire station at North Main Street is expected to reopen in about four to six weeks, Paul Pelnar said.

“As part of our continued commitment to enhance our establishment and service, we will be temporarily closing for some exciting renovations,” Bar Granada said in a statement prepared for release on its social media channels. “We appreciate all of your support and are looking forward to sharing more information with you soon.”

Renovations are planned for both the ground floor, where the bar, dining area and kitchen are located, and on the second floor, which overlooks the river, Pelnar said.

Bar Granada opened in November 2018 in space that previously housed The Wine Gallery, which shut down in May 2018 after eight years.

Bar Granada is part Spanish deli, part European cafe, Pelnar said when the business opened.

“For those who have been to Spain, we are aiming to remind you of that experience,” Pelnar said in mid-2018, when the tapas bar launched its initial build-out. “We are bringing in the flavors of a traditional Spanish kitchen,” including garlic, tomatoes, olive oil, fresh seafood, Iberico ham, house-made Sangria, and Spanish beers.
