Coroner: Woman Killed Sons, Self

Montgomery County Coroner James Davis officially announced Wednesday that the deaths of woman and her three sons in Phillipsburg were a triple murder-suicide.

The body of Tonya Hawks, 30, and her three sons were found inside a home on Poplar Street on Feb. 11, 2006. Investigators said the four had been shot.

Deputies and police said they questioned several people in connection with the deaths, including the separate fathers of the boys.

Investigators said a gun was found inside the home, but there was no sign of forced entry into the home. The bodies were found after concerned neighbors peeked through a window and then broke through a door.

Davis said Hawks used a semi-automatic handgun to shoot 5-year-old Chase Love, 4-year-old Chole Love and 2-year-old Hunter Hawks.

According to Davis, a note was found indicating that the shooting might be a triple homicide-suicide.
