HAMILTON — Two Dayton men face charges in an early morning shooting Monday near a bar where police have made multiple arrests and calls this year.
James Frederick Rogers, 32, and Dlaquan A. White, 28, were arrested Monday afternoon on charges of felonious assault and having weapons as convicted felons, Hamilton police said.
They were taken into custody after being pulled over on northbound Interstate 75 following a shooting near the J&J Bar, 316 S. Third St. The suspects had been inside prior to the shooting, police said.
Officers were dispatched about 2:30 a.m. on a report of several shots fired near the bar in the city’s Second Ward. No victims were found, but Damekeonnus Hamilton, 32, of Fairfield later arrived at The Fort Hamilton Hospital suffering from a gunshot wound to his left arm, police spokeswoman Kristy Collins said. Hamilton was taken to University Hospital in Cincinnati suffering from injuries that were not life-threatening, she said.
Officers were able to quickly identify a suspect, vehicle description and direction of travel and issued a notice to other agencies, police said. An Ohio Highway Patrol Trooper in Franklin observed the suspect’s vehicle north on I-75.
Police said three suspects were taken into custody. The third was not arrested or charged.
The shooting is the latest in a history of incidents at or near the J&J Bar. This year, there have been at least one stabbing, four arrests and six fights, one in which multiple gunshots were fired but apparently no one was injured, according to Hamilton police.
