Dayton man to serve 15 years in Verizon store robberies

Andre Wright, 37, of Dayton is to serve 15 years in prison for robbing Verizon stores in Germantown and Deerfield Twp. in 2016.

Wright pleaded guilty Wednesday to two counts of robbery and two counts of kidnapping, according to a release from the Warren County prosecutor’s office.

On June 24, Wright and a co-defendant, entered a Verizon store in Germantown with a toy gun.

They assaulted the clerk, tied him up in the rear bathroom, and stole 30 cell phones, iPads and other electronic equipment, according to

On July 3, Wright and the co-defendant robbed a Verizon store in Deerfield Township, again using a toy gun, assaulting the clerk, tying him up with a power cord in the rear bathroom. In this case, they stole cash, 14 cell phones, and other electronic devices.

The co-defendant, James Shell of Germantown, was identified from video surveillance at the stores and confessed to the crimes, according to the prosecutor’s office.

Wright is to serve 15 years in prison and pay more than $20,000 in restitution to the stores.

Shell was sentenced in October to 15 years in prison and ordered to pay restitution, according to state prison records.
