The employee was working as a clerk in the rear checkout area and stole nearly $1,500 out of both registers, according to the report.
The crime was captured on surveillance camera. Police said a woman approached the register and put money on the counter to buy a water bottle.
The employee opened the registers, stole the cash and both fled the scene.
Police said no one noticed he was gone until a customer asked for assistance at his checkout area.
The man had told co-workers it would be his last night working before he moved to New York to be with an ailing sister, according to the report.
The employee also reportedly said he didn't want to work the last night, but agreed to work because he didn't want to "burn his bridges," according to the report.
