Dayton woman guilty in outlet mall theft case

MONROE — A Dayton woman was found guilty Monday, Nov. 1, on theft and other charges for her involvement in stealing merchandise from retail stores at Cincinnati Premium Outlets.

Simone Hicks was found guilty during an pretrial hearing in Lebanon Municipal Court on theft, receiving stolen property, obstructing official business, criminal tools and endangering children. She was fined $250 plus costs and given two years probation, with 180 days in jail time with 163 days suspended, and credit for 17 days, court officials said.

Employees at The Children’s Place outlet store told Monroe police they observed Hicks and Detasha Lowe, both 31, taking clothing about 8:45 p.m. Oct. 16. They were arrested and charged after a search of their car and bags revealed stolen property from several stores at the mall on Ohio 63 off Interstate 75, police said.

Lowe’s trial is scheduled for 3 p.m. Nov. 11. She faces charges of receiving stolen property and has two open warrants in Montgomery County and Kettering courts for forgery, receiving stolen property and a traffic violation.

In another outlet mall hearing, Danette Postell, 18, is scheduled to appear at 3 p.m. Nov. 18 in Lebanon Municipal Court on obstructing official business and receiving stolen property.

She allegedly was part of a shoplifting operation Sept. 24 involving two juveniles and two adults i which all the women allegedly planned to steal from the outlet mall.
