Four of 12 people detained Thursday night in a raid on what police call a "known drug house" have been placed under arrest.

The Dayton Police Department Drug Unit has finished searching the home in the 900 block of Wyoming Avenue and came away with a quantity of crack cocaine, some cash and a .380-caliber handgun, said Dayton Sgt. John Sullivan, who heads up the drug unit.

The drug unit determined there was drug activity at the house through undercover work, Sullivan said, noting people in the area who complained to police and people who called CrimeStoppers to complain led to the raid.

Eleven men and one woman were taken from the residence and placed in a police van. All of them, as well as a 4-year-old child, were inside what Sullivan said is "a known drug house."

The child was released to a parent, who was one of the people in the house. That parent was not arrested.

A female dog and three puppies also were removed from the home.

Those placed under arrest will be facing drug and weapons charges, Sullivan said.

Markus Knight, 35, Derrick Smith, 25, Richard King, 23 and Tremaine Neal, 22 were each booked into the Montgomery County Jail Thursday night.

All the people in the house also were served paperwork that explains to them that the house is being put on the nuisance abatement list. The landlord or owner would be given a period to make sure no drug activity occurs out of that address. The house would be boarded up if drugs are found or sold there again, Sullivan said.

The area of Wyoming Avenue and Dover Street, blocked because of the investigation, was reopened to traffic at 11 p.m.
