First armed robbery in three years hits Bellbrook

BELLBROOK — Police are investigating the city’s first armed robbery in three years after a man stole drugs from the Discount Drug Mart store on Ohio 725.

The suspect, believed to be in his 20s, went to the pharmacy counter at 10:48 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, and displayed a note demanding narcotic painkillers such as Oxycontin, Bellbrook police said.

Store employees gave the man the drugs, and he fled through the building’s rear storage area while pointing an automatic handgun at other employees.

“We kind of have the feeling this wasn’t his first time (in the pharmacy),” police Chief David Helling said.

“He knew the layout well enough that he knew which cabinet the drugs were kept in,” Helling said.

The suspect was described as a 5 feet 10 to 6 feet tall and thin. He wore a goatee.

He was dressed in a white American Eagle rugby shirt that featured with red stripes and the No. 17 in large letters. He also wore a black baseball cap, with his sunglasses resting on the visor. Police said he fled in a small, black two-door vehicle.

Helling said his department has talked to Kettering police, but they have no evidence that the robbery in Bellbrook is related to an incident that occurred in Kettering about 30 minutes later.

The Medicine Shoppe, at 3600 Wilmington Pike, was robbed at approximately 11:30 a.m. by a man who displayed a silver handgun and demanded Vicodin.

The suspect in that incident wore a dark-colored jacket and a motorcycle helmet.
