Grandfather raises concerns after Kinsley’s mom rushed to hospital

WHO’S WHO:

Kinsley Kinner: The 2-year-old who died last week.

Rebecca Kinner: Kinsley's mother, who is charged with permitting child abuse in her daughter's death.

Bradley Young: Charged with murder and felonious assault in Kinsley's death. He is accused of shaking and punching Kinsley in the head multiple times, according to Butler County Sheriff's investigators. He is Rebecca Kinner's boyfriend.

Doug Kinner: Father of Rebecca Kinner; grandfather of Kinsley Kinner.

Scott Senft: Kinsley Kinner's father.

The Butler County Sheriff’s Office denies accusations of inappropriate communication made by the family of a woman being held in the Butler County Jail and facing charges in the death of her toddler.

Doug Kinner, the grandfather of 2-year-old Kinsley Kinner, who was killed last week allegedly by her mother’s boyfriend, says his family has been “treated like criminals” and claims the Butler County Sheriff’s Office withheld information about their daughter from them.

Doug Kinner said his daughter, Rebecca Kinner, who is charged with permitting child abuse, was rushed from the Butler County Jail to a hospital Friday because she thought she was in labor with her second child that is due in February.

His family, however, was not informed by sheriff’s office personnel about the hospital visit, he said.

“… it is my daughter and grandchild. Why weren’t we called?” Doug Kinner said, adding that he believes someone in the sheriff’s office is leaking information to the family of Kinsley’s father — Scott Senft.

Butler County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Anthony Dwyer said he is not aware of any inappropriate communication from his office with the family of Scott Senft.

Who Rebecca Kinner may have contacted from the hospital or from the jail is unknown, Dwyer said, adding that social media has been full of information about all aspects of this case.

“He (Doug) maybe misplaced about where Scott’s family got their information,” Dwyer said.

DNA testing will need to be done to determine if Senft is the father of the unborn child, according to Doug Kinner.

For now, Doug Kinner said his family is grieving and is trying to deal with the loss of the toddler, who he called “my precious angel.”

Dwyer said he understands this is an emotional case and that the Kinner family has also suffered a loss.

He and detectives will be reaching out to the Kinners, he said.

“But who we talk to and when we talk to people as part of an investigation is nobody’s business,” he said.

Bradley Young, 26, is accused of shaking and punching Kinsley in the head multiple times on Tuesday at his Radabaugh Road home in Madison Twp., according to Butler County Sheriff’s investigators. He is charged with murder and felonious assault. Rebecca Kinner, 23, made no attempts to come to the child’s defense, which is why she has been charged with the first-degree felony, according to sheriff’s officials.

Doug Kinner, who lives in Middletown, said Rebecca was eventually permitted to contact her parents and told them everything is alright with her pregnancy.

He declined to comment about the case until after Kinsley’s funeral, but did say he had only met Young twice.

“A couple days before this happened, I said there was something about the little (expletive) I didn’t like,” Doug Kinner said.

He said his focus is now on Kinsley’s funeral, though plans for it have not yet been finalized.

“What matters to me is getting my granddaughter buried,” said Doug Kinner. “She was absolutely precious.”
