Homicide victim shot outside club identified

A man found shot to death in a downtown restaurant's parking lot early this morning has been identified.

Mikeal Harris, 27, was found in the Arby's parking lot at the corner of South Patterson Boulevard and East 5th Street.

Just before 3:30 a.m. Dayton police requested assistance in the area of Club Vex, about a block from the Arby's, after an officer heard shots fired in area. A group of 50 to 60 people were gathered in the parking lot after leaving the club, police said.

"Most of the people dropped to the ground when they heard the shots," said Sgt. Clarence West.

Officers found Harris lying face down in the Arby's lot. Police officers could not find any signs of life and he was pronounced dead when medics arrived, West said.

Harris was at the night club earlier in the evening, according to police who spoke with numerous witnesses at the scene.

No suspects have been identified. It is unknown how many people fired shots during the incident.
