Hospital patient was combative, police say

LEBANON — A Middletown man who was a patient at Atrium Medical Center last summer was indicted for assaulting two nurses.

James Taylor, 49, was indicted by a Warren County Grand Jury Friday on charges of felonious assault, a second-degree felony, and for assault, a first-degree misdemeanor, said Assistant Prosecutor Gary Loxley.

Loxley said Taylor was a patient at the hospital on June 14 when a nurse tried to remove a breathing tube. Taylor allegedly told the nurses he wanted to get out of the hospital so that he could take care of his father and became combative and began kicking both nurses, Loxley said.

The altercation resulted in one nurse suffering a torn tendon in her elbow that required surgery, Loxley said. That injury also elevated one charge to felonious assault, he said.

Taylor was arrested on Sept. 27 and released that day.Taylor is slated to be arraigned on the charges on Jan. 7 in Warren County Common Pleas Court.
